In 1983, Lagerfeld produced his first haute couture collection for Chanel, and in 1984, after a year at Chanel, he launched his own eponymous brand. But it was at Chanel that Lagerfeld really became famous. According to Karl Lagerfeld's official website, the designer became one of the first freelancers in the fashion industry and spent his time working between France, Italy, England and Germany. Lagerfeld was born on September 10, 1933 in Hamburg, the son of Elisabeth (née Bahlmann) and businessman Otto Lagerfeld.
The prolific designer Karl Lagerfeld died at the age of 85, but he leaves behind an impressive legacy.
